Overview

At the late of 2018, I received consultation to make the pilgrimage map from Noriko and Matt of Sen Guest House, who have been acquainted with each other. After that, when I actually walked on Shodoshima, I learned about the current situation of Shodoshima pilgrimage where I can hardly see walking pilgrimages, and there are many more unique features of Shodoshima with beautiful natural scenery such as isolated sites and breathtaking landscape from mountain summits.I would like to introduce everone to this beautiful Shodoshima island.
ことの始まりは2018年の暮れ、かねてからの知己であったSen Guest HouseのNorikoとMatt夫妻から小豆島遍路地図を作る相談を受けました。それがきっかけとなって、実際に小豆島を歩いてみたところ、歩き遍路がほとんど見かけられない小豆島遍路の現状を知り、山岳霊場をはじめとする自然の風景が美しい個性的な小豆島をもっとたくさんの遍路に歩いてほしいと考えました。

Invitation to Shodoshima
Modern people just don’t walk anymore, we would all rather drive than take the time to get around on foot. When you walk, the chance encounters you have with people, the wild flowers you notice growing by the side of the road, are everywhere. Mr. Matsushita hopes many people will come to Shodoshima and experience the ancient pilgrimage culture that still remains today.
While the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage takes over 40 days to walk, the Shodoshima 88 temple pilgrimage can be completed in a week. One of the many benefits of a small island. Also, there are many isolated sites and one can feel the ocean breeze even from the tops of the mountains. Shodoshima boasts a strong, traditional culinary culture and industry, attractive hiking courses, rock climbing spots, beaches and beautiful ocean scenery. This map includes information for all of these sights to enjoy the whole island.

ともすれば自動車の便利さを謳歌する現代人は歩く機会が非常に少なくないでしょうか？もしかしたら距離が少し遠くなると「歩く」という選択肢が頭の中から消えているかもしれません。経済や便利さを追求するあまり、人として何か大事なものを忘れてしまったかもしれない。道中では見知らぬ人と自然に会話が弾み、路傍のなんでもない草花が輝いて見える。そのような環境が「自利利他の心」を育み人に優しくなれます。 いにしえの遍路文化が色濃く残る小豆島で、この充実感を多くの方々に体感していただきたいと思います。
四国遍路は歩けば40日以上かかりますが、小豆島遍路なら1週間で結願できます。1週間なら忙しい現代人でも都合をつけやすいのではないでしょうか。コンパクトな島ならではのアピールポイントです。それでいて小豆島には修行の雰囲気を体感できる山岳霊場も多く、また、山にいながらも海を感じながら歩ける開放感があります。 小豆島には古くから受け継がれてきた伝統文化や産業が多くあります。また、遍路道以外にも魅力的なハイキングコースやロッククライミングスポット、海岸などがたくさんあります。それらの情報も盛り込むことで小豆島全体を楽しんでいただける地図にしました。
